China Unicom and China Telecom could reportedly soon create a new content delivery network (CDN) joint venture to be run by the former’s cloud computing unit.
Speculation that the two-state controlled carriers, China’s second and third largest mobile operators, could establish a joint venture has continued for more than a year, according to multiple reports citing an article in China’s 21st Century Business Herald.
Unicom and Telecom were not immediately available for comment.
In July, the two operators and China’s largest mobile player China Mobile agreed to jointly establish a tower company called China Communications Facilities Services.
China Mobile will have a 40% stake in the JV, while Unicom and Telecom will have 30.1% and 29.9% holdings respectively.
