China Telecom Europe (CTE), a subsidiary of China’s largest fixed-line operator China Telecom, is looking to acquire a company in the EMEA region to expand its presence and customer base.
In an interview with TelecomFinance, CTE managing director Ou Yan said that continuous efforts are made to identify acquisition opportunities and that he is hoping a deal with an ICT business could be closed sometime next year. But he added that the company is “taking its time to find the right fit.”
About a year ago, Ou had already been quoted saying that CTE is on the lookout for acquisitions.
Separately, Ou told TelecomFinance that a network partner for its upcoming UK-based MVNO may be announced by the end of this month.
The MVNO, which will target Chinese residents and tourists in the UK, is set to be launched commercially in Q1 2012.
If successful in the UK, China Telecom Europe plans to roll out similar MVNOs in France, Germany and Italy.
