China Mobile plans to invest RMB1.5bn (US$225m) to trial 4G technology across 3,060 base stations in six large cities, according to reports citing local media.
The mobile operator is developing its own version of the technology, called TD-LTE, and has reportedly been designated the 2570MHz-2620MHz frequency band for the project.
Domestic equipment vendors Huawei Technologies, ZTE and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment, as well as Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Motorola have been invited to assist the trial, the reports add.
The Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are set to benefit from the trial.
