China Mobile is considering taking part in Belgium’s 4G licence auction this year, reported Bloomberg citing chairman Wang Jianzhou.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos yesterday, Wang Jianzhou reportedly told reporters that he had been approached by Belgium about whether his company would be interested in acquiring the licences.
Although the company is keen to expand in emerging markets first, it will consider opportunities that will support the development of TD-LTE technology, he is cited as saying.
Mobile operators have until 4 February to submit 4G applications for the licences, which will be valid for ten years and then be renewable on a five-year basis.
China Mobile, which was unable to comment before the press deadline, is currently piloting 4G technology in China and South Korea.
