China Mobile has won a mobile TV licence to operate in Hong Kong, the local regulator said.
Hong Kong’s Telecommunications Authority will issue a 15-year unified carrier licence to China Mobile in July or August, at a cost of HK$175m (US$22.5m) to the operator.
According to the terms of the licence China Mobile’s Hong Kong division must deliver mobile TV content to at least 50% of the population within 18 months of the licence award.
