Akil Beshir will step down as chairman of incumbent operator Telecom Egypt after 12 years in the position on 1 October.

Akil Beshir will step down as chairman of incumbent operator Telecom Egypt after 12 years in the position on 1 October.
Beshir was appointed CEO and chairman in 2000, but he relinquished his executive duties in 2009 becoming non-executive chair.
A successor has yet to be named.
“During my tenure at Telecom Egypt, we have witnessed a great deal of change in the home market,” said Beshir.
Egypt’s communications minister, Hany Mahmoud, said: “He leaves behind a powerful legacy and I would like to thank him for the lasting impression he has made on the company and the industry at large.”
