Steve Dussek has left his position as CEO of US-based NII Holdings, with chairman Steven Shindler taking the role on an interim basis until a successor is appointed.
The company, which operates under the Nextel brand in Latin America, said Dussek plans to pursue other opportunities.
Shindler has served as chairman of Nextel since 2000 and was the company’s CEO from 2000 to 2008. He was CFO of Nextel Communications between 1996 and 2000. Earlier in his career Shindler spent nine years as managing director of Toronto-Dominion Bank, where he raised capital for wireless companies.
“I will focus my attention on the build-out of our 3G network, high-quality subscriber growth, key financial metrics including revenue and margins, and providing a quality product and superior customer experience,” said Shindler.
Nextel offers mobile services to business and high-value customers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru with 11.3 million subscribers as of the end of Q3.
