US fixed-line operator CenturyLink has distanced itself from rumours that it would consider acquiring cellco Sprint Nextel.
A report in Bloomberg last week cited one analyst, Chris Larsson from Piper Jaffray, saying that CenturyLink would be the most logical acquirer of Sprint as it had the financial resources available, needed a wireless business and had shown an appetite for large deals.
Nonetheless, CenturyLink’s CEO reportedly said last week that the company was not looking to go after any large buys at the moment.
According to a report in The News Star newspaper, CEO Glen Post said that the company’s focus now was on its integration with Qwest Communications and its acquisition of the data centre company Savvis.
CenturyLink recently closed its US$22.4bn merger deal with Qwest Communications and also announced an agreement to acquire Savvis in a US$2.5bn cash and stock merger.
