The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) approved Cell C’s application for additional 3G spectrum, a spokesperson of the mobile operator confirmed.
Cell C has been awarded an additional 5MHz to its existing 2x10MHz 3G spectrum.
CEO Lars Reichelt was quoted saying in local media that the additional frequencies would be used for HSPA+ services.
MTN and Vodacom have already received an additional 5MHz block each and Telkom is reportedly also interested in applying for the last 5MHz available.
