Cape Verde’s telecoms regulator ANAC is planning to offer three 3G licences up for sale later this year, according to AllAfrica.
There are currently two GSM operators in the country, Portugal Telecom’s CV Telecom and T+, a subsidiary of the Teylium group.
The new entrant will also be offered a GSM licence.
The price of the licence is expected to be quite low as the authorities are keen to see interesting proposals to develop information society in the country.
AllAfrica believes that Digicel, a company present in the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific, may be interested in a 3G licence since earlier this year it was one of winners of the five BWA licences offered in the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz band and the company has no data-only operations anywhere else in the world.
The regulator was not immediately available for comments.
