Spanish cablecos ONO, Euskaltel, R and Telecable could be awarded mobile licences this year, according to reports citing business paper El Economista.
The government has reportedly drafted a decree to allow the cablecos to bid for as much as 15MHz of spectrum in the 2600MHz band.
Blocks of spectrum in the 900MHz band from Spain’s mobile operators could also be recovered by the government for an auction that would bar existing players Movistar and Vodafone Spain from taking part, the reports add.
