Bulgaria’s Communications Regulation Commission has launched a tender to sell a fourth UMTS licence, Reuters reports.
The minimum price for the 15-year licence has been set at Lv49.5m (US$34m). Bids are due by 7 December.
The regulator reportedly decided to launch the tender after local company 4G COM applied for a licence in July.
There are currently three 3G operators in the country: Telekom Austria’s Mobiltel, OTE’s Globul and PineBridge Investments’ Vivacom.
In August 2008, the regulator cancelled a tender to sell a fourth mobile operator after the bid paperwork of the sole bidder, Liechtenstein-based Telco, was found incomplete.
The regulator did not reply to request for comments before press time.
