UK incumbent BT has unveiled the six communities that will be the first to benefit from its super-fast broadband roll-out.
Residents of Baschurch, Blewbury, Caxton, Innerleithen, Madingley, and Whitchurch are set to have their exchanges connected to fibre by early 2012.
More than 360,000 votes were cast in total from residents hoping to see their areas fast-tracked in BT’s £2.5bn plans to deploy fibre to two thirds of the UK by 2015.
“Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to those who haven’t been successful, but all their efforts haven’t been in vain because their votes will help influence our plans in the future,” said Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT Retail.
