British telecoms incumbent BT has finalised its MVNO deal with wireless operator EE as it prepares to re-enter the consumer mobile market this year.
The five-year contract will first migrate business and public sector customers from an earlier deal it had with Vodafone before launching 2G, 3G and 4G services for consumers.
The two companies entered into exclusive talks in October after EE beat Vodafone and other rival operators O2 and 3 in the tender.
Speaking at its Q3 results on 31 January 2013, BT CEO Gavin Patterson said: “Our mobility strategy will build on the strength of our Wi-Fi proposition inside and outside premises.
“It’ll build on the 4G spectrum that we bought this time last year, which lends itself particularly well to an in-premise data delivery, and of course it will build in the new MVNO deal that we have with EE.”
BT sold its mobile division several years ago to Telefonica, enabling the Spanish incumbent to enter the UK market with O2.
