Bosnia and Herzegovina Prime Minister Nermin Niksic has denied the government plans to privatise BH Telecom, saying there is no need to do so.
Niksic told local publication Fokus that the government will accelerate the privatisation processes for certain companies in which it has minority stakes, stressing that BH Telecom is “definitely” not one of these. The state has a 90% stake in the incumbent telco.
Media speculation that Sarajevo-based BH Telecom will be privatised has been circulating for some time. In February, it was reported that the state planned to sell shares via the stock exchange. According to the reports, the state would sell a 5% stake initially and conduct a “feasibility study” for the remainder.
However, Niksic said there is no need to privatise BH Telecom as long as it continues to produce the results it does, adding he believes it can do even better.
Established in 1992, BH Telecom provides fixed, mobile and broadband internet services. The 10% of shares not held by the government are owned by private investment funds and small shareholders.
