Bank of America Merrill Lynch has hired Winston Cheng from Goldman Sachs to become its head of TMT in Asia, replacing Robert Chiu.
Cheng, who will be based in Hong Kong, was head of Asia ex-Japan Technology at Goldman Sachs. His remit at BofA won’t include Japan either, although he will cover Australia.
Earlier in his career Cheng spent more than 10 years at Citigroup becoming a director in its Asia TMT practice, alongside spells in the New York and Palo Alto offices.
Cheng will report to Jayanti Bajpai and Jiro Seguchi, co-heads of Asia Pacific corporate investment banking, and Chet Bozdog, co-head of global TMT.
Bozdog’s role was recently expanded – from head of global technology – as BofA integrated its technology, media and telecommunications practices worldwide last month.
Anwar Zakkour joined as BofA’s other co-head of global TMT, and Mark Bush, who had led the bank’s global media and telecom team since 2009, chairs the merged practice.
