Belgian incumbent Belgacom has entered exclusive negotiations with French media and telecoms conglomerate Vivendi to sell part of its ICT business, Groupe Telindus France.
The transaction will only include the French assets of Telindus, which is also present in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK.
Belgacom bought the whole of Telindus almost eight years ago for around €600m.
The operator did not reveal the size of the potential transaction but said that the unit had revenues of €241m in 2013 and is Cisco’s leading distributor in France.
The sale to Vivendi makes sense, Belgacom indicated, as Telindus France and the conglomerate’s mobile unit SFRhave a long standing relationship.
“For example, the two companies formed a strong partnership in 2013 to develop and commercialise unified cloud communication solutions, UCaas (Unified Communication as a Service),” a Belgacom statement read.
If agreed, the deal will be subject to French competition authorities’ approval.
Belgacom acquired Telindus in 2006 following a heated battle with French incumbent Orange, then known as France Telecom.
