Belgacom has appointed Dominique Leroy as CEO after her nomination was approved by the Belgian government, the incumbent’s largest shareholder.
Former CEO Didier Bellens was relieved of his duties in November after the government lost patience with his repeated criticisms of the state and named CFO Ray Stewart as interim CEO.
Belgacom appointed external headhunting agency Russell Reynolds to draw up a shortlist of qualified candidates. The list included Leroy, who was already part of the incumbent as executive vice-president of its consumer division.
Leroy is reportedly set to get a much lower wage than her predecessor, receiving a maximum €650,000, as opposed to €2.5m for Bellens received roughly €2.5m.
Bellens’ departure followed that of Michel Moll, the former chairman. He left the operator in September after reportedly acknowledging to have been a strategic consultant for Chinese telecoms vendor Huawei since 2010.
