The Belarusian government has reportedly outlined plans to hold another auction of LTE spectrum after calling off a sale in June because it only received one bid.
Belarus’ Ministry of ITC is preparing to once again tender frequencies in the 2,500-2,535 MHz and 2,620-2,655 MHz bands, reported local publication Tut, citing Olga Fedoreyeva, head of the Telecommunications Department within the ministry.
Fedoreyeva was unavailable to comment before going to press.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that on 23 December it will auction a 51% stake in local state-owned mobile operator MTS Belarus.
The auction was originally scheduled to take place on 1 December.
In a statement, the government’s State Property Committee said that the initial selling price of the stake would be US$1bn, and the deadline for the submission of documents is 7 December.
The 51% stake is currently held by state-owned fixed-line operator Beltelecom. The remaining 49% is held by Russian telco MTS.
Last April, Anatoly Kalinin, Belarus’ vice premier, was reported saying that MTS had offered to buy the state’s 51% stake, but negotiations collapsed as parties failed to agree on the price.
