A terrestrial fibre cable linking India and Bangladesh is expected to launch in the first week of November, the MD of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company (BTCL) has told local newspaper The Daily Star.
The 25km-long will connect Darshana in Bangladesh and Krishna Nagar in India, serving as an alternative to the submarine cable system.
The report explains that in November last year, BTCL signed a deal with Indian state-owned fixed-line operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) to extend the fibre cable into India.
According to The Daily Star, the Bdt 15m (US$212,000) project is expected to lower the costs of calls to neighbouring countries.
