Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp has restructured its civil space business, splitting its operations into two separate units.
The company will now operate a civil space and technology division led by vice president and general manager Jim Oschmann and an operational space division led by vice president and general manager Cary Ludtke.
The former will focus on Ball’s science and technology development objectives for civil customers while the latter will manage the company’s ongoing space programmes, such as the construction of DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 satellite and the United States’ civil weather system, the Joint Polar Satellite System.
Under Ludtke, who has been with Ball Aerospace for nearly thirty years, the operational space division will also seek to expand the company’s commercial and international opportunities. The company’s space projects have traditionally focussed on US governmental and defence contracts.
As part of the organisational change, Rob Freedman will replace Oschmann as the general manager of Ball’s tactical solutions business unit.
