Bailey, who had been head of Citigroup’s TMT unit since 2006, will assume the newly-created role next month, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
He left Citigroup as part of cuts to its investment banking division.
Among the notable deals Bailey has worked are Mannesmann’s US$33bn acquisition of Orange in 1999, and Vodafone’s US$11bn acquisition of a majority stake in Hutchison Essar in 2007.
