Just before the end of the 2009, Willis placed the launch plus one for Japanese satellite operator Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation’s (B-Sat) BSAT3B satellite.
One source told SatelliteFinance that spacecraft was insured for the lowest rate of the year, at around 10.5%. The insurance is understood to have been placed on a horizontal rather that vertical basis.
It also seems that B-Sat took out a Launch Risk Guarantee with Arianespace for the launch meaning that the insurers are not fully exposed during the launch flight phase.
The satellite is currently being constructed by Lockheed Martin and is scheduled to be launched by Arianespace in the third quarter of 2010. The satellite is based on Lockheed’s A2100A bus and will comprise 12 130 W Ku band channels (eight operating at one time) and will be located at 110E.
