AT&T has acquired Xanboo, the “smart-home” platform developer, according to media reports.
CEPro reported on Monday that AT&T had acquired the US-based start-up.
Xanboo develops products for consumers to monitor remotely their home’s security, energy efficiency and the healthcare of relatives.
AT&T confirmed to TelecomFinance that it had acquired Xanboo. A spokesman said: “Xanboo and AT&T have a longstanding relationship, and we see synergies between Xanboo’s technology and our offerings for consumers and small businesses. Xanboo’s monitoring services are a natural extension of our high speed Internet, video and voice offerings and a good fit for our wireless services, as you noted in your piece earlier today.”
AT&T is not the only company investing in the smart-home sector.
The news of its acquisition comes after Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of Motorola, announced on December 1 that it had signed an agreement to acquire another smart-home developer, 4Home.
Motorola Mobility did not disclose the terms of the deal, but it did say in a statement that it expects it to be closed by the end of the year.
