The European Defence Agency has contracted EADS Astrium’s Services division to conduct a preparatory study into the future coordination of the European Union’s military satellite communications requirements.
Astrium Services will carry out a one year pilot project that aims to create a centralised infrastructure through which EU member states can procure capacity for military use on commercial spectrum such as C, Ka and Ku band.
The process entails mapping out the requirements of each member state’s armed forces. Astrium Services will then establish the framework for the European Satellite Communication Procurement Cell (ESCPC), which will coordinate and aggregate capacity orders for EU armed forces.
