ILS will launch AsiaSat’s AsiaSat 7 satellite from Kazakhstan
next year in a launch window between August 1 and
November 30.
The launch will cost the satellite operator US$101m.
US$14.584m of this will be paid on the date of the launch, with
the balance will be paid one month after the launch. The entire
transaction will be paid in cash, and is fully funded by AsiaSat’s
internal resources.
The bird, which is still being manufactured by US-based
Space Systems/Loral, will replace the group’s DTH spacecraft
AsiaSat 3S at 105.5E.
On July 9, the group said an agreement with rival launch
provider Sea Launch could see AsiaSat 7 in orbit between
January 1, 2012, and December 2014. However, the filing
reveals it has now decided to use the Sea Launch contract for
an as yet undisclosed satellite, adding that no payments have
been made to the provider for this yet.
