Argentina’s government has approved the merger of the local units of Mexican giant Telmex and mobile operator Claro, both controlled by America Móvil, according to local reports.
The country’s competition watchdog, CNDC, has approved the process, and the new structure will start operating under the Claro brand from October 20. The integration process between the two companies started in August.
Claro Argentina will now offer mobile telephony services, as well as fixed telephony and internet services, for corporate and government clients.
The approval will also see AMX operate under the Claro brand in Argentina, Chile and Peru.
In Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador, the company still needs authorisation to merge the Claro and Telmex brands.
