South African fixed-line operator Telkom has announced the immediate appointment of Deon Fredericks as acting CFO, replacing Peter Nelson who has resigned a month earlier than previously planned.
A spokesperson for Telkom was unable to offer more information. Fredericks previously acted as its group executive for accounting services.
The company last month announced that Nelson would resign with effect from October 9. This came just a week after Reuben September stepped down as Telkom’s group CEO – four months earlier than planned.
The Telkom spokesperson assured TelecomFinance that Nelson’s departure “is in no way” linked to September’s decision to leave the group.
Jeffrey Hedberg, previously head of Telkom’s Nigerian phone unit Multi-Links, replaced September as acting CEO. The group is still looking for a permanent replacement, and expects to make an announcement regarding this in due course.
In January, TelecomFinance reported that Telkom plans to spend up to R6bn (US$815m) over the next five years to launch mobile services in South Africa.
