Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has approved the R$1.6bn (US$967m) acquisition of fibre optics company AES Atimus by TIM Celular, a subsidiary of TIM Participacoes.
A Telecom Italia spokeswoman told TelecomFinance that Telecom Italia now expects the deal to close in Q3 2011. Telecom Italia holds a 67% indirect stake in TIM Participacoes through its subsidiary, TIM Brasil.
AES Atimus runs a 5,500km fibre network in the Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo areas of Brazil.
AES is being advised by Banco Itau BBA on the deal, while Telecom Italia is being advised by BTG Pactual and Mediobanca.
