America Movil has installed former Ericsson manager Alejandro Plater in the newly-created role of chief operating officer at its European subsidiary Telekom Austria.
Plater will be responsible for the daily operation of technology as well as market areas and purchasing. His arrival has signalled the departure of Gunther Ottendorfer, who had been the Austrian incumbent’s chief technology officer for the last two years.
Plater has taken over as of today following the board unanimously approving his appointment.
“We have formed a strong management team and we are convinced this team will lead Telekom Austria Group into a prosperous future,” Carlos Moreno, vice-chairman of the supervisory board and CFO of America Movil, said.
“Alejandro Plater is an excellent manager, who has been working very closely with us in Mexico.”
The appointment is a demonstration of America Movil’s increased influence at Telekom Austria, in which it raised its stake to 59.7% last year. The Mexican giant has bought Telekom Austria with a view to expanding in Central and Eastern Europe.
Plater has been appointed on a three-year contract with the option to extend it by another two years.
