The Chilean unit of US towerco American Tower has acquired 558 towers in Chile from Telefonica’s local business for Ps49.2m (US$96m).
The completion of the acquisition by American Tower’s local subsidiary ATC (American Tower en Chile) was announced by Telefonica Moviles Chile in a statement.
Telefonica said that the move would allow it to concentrate on the operational and technical management of its network, while American Tower could increase the coverage of its operation as a provider of intermediary telecoms services.
Telefonica will still be able to use the towers through a leasing agreement.
