Latin American telecoms giant America Movil (AMX) has formally challenged regulations imposed on it by Mexico’s new telecoms regulator.
The IFT determined that AMX was a “preponderant economic agent” last month and imposed asymmetric measures to bring the incumbent’s share of the mobile and fixed-line telephony markets below 50%.
AMX said it had filed an injunction against the regulator’s decision without expanding on what points of the IFT’s ruling it objected to.
Last week the telco launched a stinging attack on the details of secondary legislation, which is part of Mexico’s telecoms reforms.
The bill will allow the regulator to interfere with prices the “dominant” operator sets and force it to share its networks.
AMX’s share price have recovered somewhat since it has started its fight back against the new regulations. However, its stock is still trading more than 10% below what it was at the start of the year.
