London-based private equity firm Alchemy Partners is looking to sell backbone operator Geo.
M&A adviser Arma Partners has been mandated by the firm to offload the business, although TelecomFinance understands that the process is at an early stage and significant developments are unlikely to happen until 2014.
Geo could be sold for as much as £200m (US$311m), according to a Mail on Sunday report which cited a City source.
An Alchemy spokesman declined to comment.
Geo, which was previously owned by Hutchison Whampoa up until 2008, boasts more than 3,000KM of fibre across the UK and Ireland offering data services to businesses.
Its customers include wireless operator Three, fixed-line player TalkTalk, MVNO Lebara Mobile and data centre operator Equinix.
Geo was created by Hong Kong telco Hutchison in 2003 and acquired by Alchemy in 2008.
