Michel Combes is to step down as CEO of Alcatel-Lucent (EPA:ALU) on 1 September, the Franco-American telecoms infrastructure business has announced. Combes was earlier this year reported to have accepted a new role at Luxembourg-based telecoms investor Altice.
Taking his place on an interim basis will be current chairman of the board of directors Philippe Camus.
The company, which in April agreed to a €15.5bn (US$17bn) acquisition by Finnish rival Nokia (HEL:NOK1V), said that during the transition period Jean-Cyril Spinetta would be lead director of the board, while chief finance and legal officer Jean Raby would be responsible for completing the transaction.
The deal announcement had stated that Combes would not stay on as CEO of the combined company.
