Airbus Defense and Space has launched a multi-band suite of new high throughput satcom services called AuroraGlobal to meet soaring demand for more bandwidth.
The portfolio offers services in the Ku-, X- and Ka-bands for its government, maritime and enterprise customers without the need to change antenna systems.
The announcement comes in the wake of a major reorganisation that combined Airbus’ space assets, previously under a division called Astrium, with its military units to create Airbus DS.
For civil and military government X-band customers, AuroraGlobal promises up to four times more throughput compared with existing terminals. It also claims to offer greater throughput via smaller terminals, with its Skynet satellites recently proving that a 60cm terminal can provide more than 70Mbps of throughput.
For its Ka-band offering, AuroraGlobal leverages on a deal secured in December with British MSS operator Inmarsat for high-speed capacity on its next generation Global Xpress constellation.
In addition to this, Airbus DS announced today that it has secured a similar deal with satellite operator Intelsat, which will supply Ku-band capacity from its HTS EpicNG platform for the maritime market.
Evert Dudok, head of communications, intelligence and security at Airbus DS, said: “Our Intelsat agreement is an important part of our new AuroraGlobal offering, which provides the best value next generation satcom-enabled solutions using our global multi-band network. This will allow Airbus DS to deliver the future to its customers starting now.”
Airbus DS said AuroraGlobal’s customers in the enterprise vertical markets will also benefit from a recent deal it signed with Newtecc, the satcom technology firm, to provide network hubs that optimise frequency bands on HTS birds.
