The government has selected a consortium of advisers for the privatisation of its telecoms incumbent BTC, according to local media. Reports said that law firm Collins Newman & Co and consultancy Deloitte have won the mandate.

Last year, the authorities decided to list 49% of the fixed-line operator on the Botswana Stock Exchange after the end of the financial year in March 2011.

The Public Enterprises Evaluation & Privatisation Agency (PEEPA) was quoted saying that the advisers’ would undertake the evaluation of BTC assets and conduct due diligence.

Botswana has recurrently revived plans to privatise the operator since 2006, setting deadlines that slipped by with no deal ever taking place.
