China will have completed its testing of its 4G TD-LTE network within the next 18 months, according to media reports.
The Chinese news website Xinhua News reported today that a government official at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had said that trials of the TD-LTE network will last approximately a year and a half.
The trials started this month.
According to the report, Zhang Feng, the director of the telecommunications department in MIIT, also said that international companies are welcome to participate in the development of the network.
Incumbent China Mobile will reportedly lead the construction, operation and maintenance of the network.
But a range of Chinese and international vendors are also reportedly involved in the trials, including Alcatel-Lucent, Datang Telecom, Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and ZTE.
