Azerbaijan’s ministry of communications and information technologies has issued 3G licences to mobile operators Azercell and Bakcell, according to local press agency Trend.
Until now, Azerfon was the only operator to offer 3G services, having won its licence in 2010. Last year, Azercell and Bakcell failed to qualify after submitting incorrect paperwork.
The ministry has also reportedly recommended that the three mobile operators submit proposals to introduce LTE services in the country.
Neither the ministry nor the operators replied to request for comments before press time.
