Indian carrier Loop Mobile has decided to shut down its operations, except in Mumbai, after the Supreme Court ordered the cancellation of its 2G licences, according to Livemint.
The move is expected to only impact 6,000 customers out of the company’s 3.2 million customers, the website reported.
Loop Mobile is also reportedly seeking Rs38bn (US$740.5m) in damages from the Indian government.
Before Loop, two other mobile operators – S Tel and Etisalat DB – had announced they would exit the Indian market following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the country’s 2G scam in early February.
Overall, eight operators will lose their licences, which, according to the court, were illegally attributed in 2008. Most of the affected operators have initiated legal steps to overturn that decision.
Loop Mobile could not be reached for comment before the press deadline.
