New Zealand mobile operator 2degrees has appointed Stewart Sherriff as its new CEO.
Sherriff became the challenger’s interim CEO in tragic circumstances earlier this year after the untimely death of 2degrees’ then head Eric Hertz.
Sheriff became chairman of 2degrees in 2010 and will retain the position for now until a replacement is found.
However, he is resigning from his role as CTO of Trilogy International Partners, a US holding company which is 2degrees’ majority shareholder. Sherriff, who has been based in the US as chairman, will up sticks from Chicago and move to New Zealand.
Commenting on his appointment, Sherriff said: “There’s huge potential in 2degrees, which has redefined mobile for so many New Zealanders.”
Andy Scott, head of the 2degrees board recruitment committee, said: “The board was drawn to Stewart’s experience with a range of overseas mobile operators, especially his success as CEO of Ireland’s Meteor, which was the third entrant in a market with two dominant competitors.”
Sherriff’s predecessor, Eric Hertz, died in a light aircraft accident at the end of March.
2degrees has more than NZ$550m (US$429m) invested in national infrastructure and can count more than one million customers.
