International law firm Dentons has launched a new space business sector team. The practice will be led by industry veteran Delbert (Del) Smith.
Washington DC-based Smith will be senior space business counsel at the firm and will work alongside Elizabeth Evans and Deepak Reddy, who have both joined as partners in the New York office.
Dentons said the space business team will focus on transactional, insurance, intellectual property, regulatory, import/export and litigation and arbitration needs on behalf of businesses in the commercial space sector.
Smith joins Dentons from Jones Day where he was senior telecommunications counsel. He has more than 35 years of experience as an international lawyer dealing with high-technology law and has represented satellite operators and manufacturers, banks and space insurance underwriters in numerous transactional matters.
In particular, he has advised non-US companies in expanding into US domestic and international space and telecommunications markets through direct investment and joint ventures.
Evans, who will also serve as global co-chair of Denton’s aviation finance practice, focuses on aircraft, project and satellite financing. In addition, she has participated in unleveraged and leveraged equipment acquisitions, including satellite procurement agreements.
Reddy concentrates on representing airlines, aircraft leasing companies, financial institutions and investment funds in connection with M&A, financing and leasing transactions.
