SingTel is considering picking up a stake in Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel), the infrastructure arm of Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom).
The move could take place on the back of the Indonesian government’s proposed policy change that will see FDI permitted in the infrastructure sector.
Mitratel currently operates 54 towers in West Java, Riau, Kalimantan and Batam and Telkom is planning to transfer ownership of 30,000 towers from its mobile unit Telkomsel – in which SingTel holds 35% – to Mitratel. In addition, Telkom will transfer 2,000 towers from its Telkom Flexi unit to Mitratel.
The infrastructure sector is one of five sectors that may be opened up to foreign investments in March.
