Israeli wireless operator Cellcom has announced Ron Shvili as its new chief technology officer (CTO) following the resignation of Eliezer Ogman last month.
Shvili will join the company as part of a transition in September and will take over the role permanently on 1 November.
From 1990 to 2012 Shvili worked for Israel’s military, holding various management positions.
In a statement Cellcom’s CEO Nir Sztern commented: “Ron Shvili has an extensive experience in the forefront of technology in the fields of communications, cyber and IT and will be able to contribute significantly to the development of Cellcom Israel as the leader on that front.”
The operator is Israel’s largest by subscribers and has a market cap of roughly US$1.1bn. It is traded on the NYSE and the Tel Aviv bourse.
At the end of July its parent IDB Holding denied a report which suggested Cellcom was up for sale and that smaller rival Golan Telecom may look to buy it.
IDB – owned by businessman Nochi Dankner – reportedly owes its bondholders NIS2bn, while subsidiary IDB Development owes bondholders NIS5.8bn. Creditors have claimed IDB is insolvent and are trying to take control of the company through the courts.
