Vodafone has entered into a non-equity agreement with Brazil’s Datora Telecom, giving the British mobile operator access to South America’s largest economy.
The arrangement is part of Vodafone’s “Partner Market agreements”. On its website, the company says that it “has entered into arrangements with network operators in countries where the group does not hold an equity stake”.
Vodafone further explains that it cooperates with its partners in “the marketing of global products and services with varying levels of brand association”.
As part of the Datora Telecom agreement, the mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) will re-brand itself Vodafone Brasil. It will start trading immediately
Highlighting the importance of the partnership, the operator explained that around half of its 1,500 multinational business customers have employees based in Brazil.
The new partnership will initially focus on M2M and data. But the companies want to add fully integrated voice services for the enterprise sector in Brazil in the near future.
The British operator claims to be the market leader for M2M services, serving more than 11 million M2M connections globally.
In South America, Vodafone already has a partner market agreement with Chile’s Entel. It is present in several other regions across the globe, including the Middle East via its partnership with Zain.
