The CFO of African telco MTN has resigned with immediate effect as the company investigates allegations made against him.
Nazir Patel said he was leaving the role, which he had held since late 2009, so as not to prejudice the investigation into claims against him, MTN said in a statement to shareholders.
Brett Goschen, CEO of MTN Nigeria, has already stepped into the position becoming the South African group’s CFO and executive financial director on the board.
MTN did not disclose any details as to the nature of the investigation.
MTN operates in 21 countries across Africa and the Middle East. In late May it shook up its senior management making Karel Pienaar is its new chief strategy officer. MTN said Pienaar’s appointment reflects the separation of the M&A and strategy divisions of the business.
