French operators SFR, owned by Vivendi, and Bouygues have entered into exclusive talks about mobile network sharing.
The companies had held preliminary discussions previously about the issue and hope to conclude them before the end of the year.
Bouygues highlighted in its statement that the two telcos would continue to be commercially independent. It said any deal would be comparable to similar sharing agreements in other European countries.
A network sharing deal, which is expected to result in significant capex savings, would be subject to approval by the national telecoms and the antitrust regulator.
