After months of uncertainty, Malaysian telco Maxis has announced that Morten Lundal will become its next CEO as of 1 October 2013.
He will join the operator from Vodafone where he currently serves as group chief commercial officer.
Lundal previously worked as regional CEO of eight Vodafone companies in Central Europe and Africa. Before that, he was CEO of Telenor’s DiGi Malaysia, the country’s third-largest mobile operator behind Maxis and Celcom.
In late March, Maxis CEO Sandip Das said he would leave on 15 April, earlier than the previously announced date of 30 June.
Johan Dennelind was expected to head the operator as of 1 July 2013 but a few weeks ago it was announced that he would become CEO of TeliaSonera instead.
Dennelind had also previously served as CEO of DiGi as well as CFO and deputy CEO of Telenor Sweden.
Until Lundal joins Maxis, a committee comprising CFO Nasution Mohammed and COO Suren Amarasekera will continue to head the company.
