Bulgaria has launched a public consultation on the prospective allocation of spectrum in the 1800MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz and 3500MHz bands for the development of electronic communications.
The Commission for Communications Regulation (CCR) announced that, in line with a decision document dated 27 June, the public consultation period will last for 30 days.
In a document outlining the proposed allocations, the regulator said the following frequencies will be made available: 2 x 20.4MHz blocks in the 1800MHz band, 2 x 30MHz paired blocks in the 1900-1920MHz and 2110-2170MHz bands, 1 x 20MHz block in the 1900-1920MHz band, and 1 x 63MHz block in the 3500MHz band.
The CCR said all frequencies apart from those in the 3500MHz band are to be allocated for 2G GSM, 3G UMTS, 4G LTE and Wimax services. The regulator said the 3500MHz frequencies are best suited for wireless broadband services.
The 1900MHz frequencies are to be reserved for new operators.
The regulator highlighted that potential licences will be technology neutral.
Bulgaria’s mobile network operators are Mtel, Globul, Vivacom, Max Telecom and Nexcom.
