Anwar Zakkour, the investment banker who advised MetroPCS on its recent sale to Deutsche Telekom, has joined Bank of America as the co-head of its newly-formed global TMT group from JP Morgan.
He will lead the TMT team alongside Chet Bozdog, who is currently BofA’s head of global technology investment banking. Meanwhile Mark Bush, who has led the bank’s global media and telecom team since 2009, will chair the new group.
BofA decide to integrate the teams into one because the sectors were becoming increasingly intertwined, according to an internal memo seen by TelecomFinance.
Zakkour has spent the last eight years at JP Morgan where he has held a number of roles including vice chairman of investment banking and head of TMT M&A.
He has worked on landmark deals such as GE’s sale of NBCU to Comcast, News Corp’s acquisition of Dow Jones, and Cisco’s purchase of NDS.
Zakkour will be based in New York and answer to Christian Meissner, head of global corporate and investment banking.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch came eighth in TelecomFinance’s league table for M&A advice by deal value in EMEA for 2012. It came tenth in terms of bond arrangers for the same region.
