Malaysian mobile operator Packet One Networks (P1) has announced that its CEO Michael Lai is resigning from his role for personal reasons.
He will be replaced by Chan Cheong Puan, the founder and CEO of P1 parent Green Packet Group, as of 1 July 2013.
Since January of this year Puan has already served as COO of P1 in order to “get deeply involved in its operations,” the operator said in a statement.
“As a founder of the business, I’m extra committed to see P1 succeed and will personally assume the P1 CEO role to enable me to directly shape P1’s future and unlock its full potential,” Puan commented.
In 2008, P1, then led by Lai, was among the first companies in Southeast Asia to launch WiMAX services. But the company remains one of the smallest operators in Malaysia.
